Mental health is how we think, feel and act as we cope with life.  Admittingly within the Black community these issues aren’t frequently discussed. To be at your best, you need to feel good about your life and value yourself.  A baby does not make feelings of anxiety and depression go away, but talking to a professional or friend or family member regularly can help. 

Preparing the mind before pregnancy can lessen the effects of postpartum depression and help you find ways of balancing those feelings, so they don’t interfere with your daily life. Talk with your doctor or another health professional about your mental health and treatment options. 

Stress can also affect your chance of getting pregnant. There is evidence that has found a relationship between women’s levels of day-to-day stress and lowered chances of pregnancy.
